Sheet cutting optimizer and cut list calculator for plywood, MDF and chipboard
CutRun is a free sheet cutting optimizer and cut list calculator. Enter part sizes and quantities, set your sheet size and saw kerf, and get optimized cutting diagrams with less waste, the exact edge banding length and a plan you can print for the workshop.
How it works
- Enter your parts. Type length, width and quantity, or import a CSV from Excel or Google Sheets.
- Set the sheet. Sheet size, thickness, saw blade width (kerf) and trim margins, or several materials with their own sizes and stock.
- Calculate. CutRun nests the parts onto sheets and shows material utilization, the number of sheets and the edge banding you need.
- Take it to the saw. Print any single sheet, or export a PDF with the full parts list and every layout.
Features
- Edge banding per side — mark which edges get banding and see the total length.
- Grain direction — lock parts that must follow the wood grain.
- Multiple materials — each with its own sheet size, thickness and stock.
- Stack cutting — identical sheets are detected so you can cut them in one pass.
- Metric and imperial — millimetres, metres, decimal or fractional inches, feet and inches.
- Cost estimate — price per sheet and per metre of edge banding.
- CSV import and export — move parts lists to and from spreadsheets.
- 10 languages — English, German, Dutch, French, Spanish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Japanese and Korean.
Frequently asked questions
Is CutRun free?
Yes. You can run 5 calculations a day for free after signing in, and try it without an account first. Premium removes the daily limit, makes calculations faster and removes the CutRun line from PDFs.
How does a sheet cutting optimizer work?
It takes your cut list and arranges the parts on standard sheets so you need as few sheets and as little waste as possible. CutRun does this in seconds and shows every cut on a diagram, with panel sizes, saw kerf and edge banding taken into account.
Which materials does it work with?
Any rectangular sheet material: plywood, MDF, chipboard (particleboard), OSB, laminated boards, acrylic, glass or metal sheets.
What is kerf and why does it matter?
Kerf is the width of material the saw blade removes with each cut. CutRun leaves this gap between parts, so the layout matches what you can actually cut.
Can I import my parts list from Excel?
Yes. Save the sheet as CSV and use Import / Export → Import parts from CSV. A ready template is available in the same menu.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes, CutRun runs in any modern browser on desktop, tablet and phone, with no installation.
