How the sizes are worked out

Cutting plan on 2440 × 1220 sheets

Laid out by the CutRun calculator with a 3 mm saw kerf and 10 mm trimmed off the factory edges.

Sheet 1: Top, Bottom, Shelf, Door, Drawer front/back, Drawer front

Sheet 2: Side, Drawer front/back, Drawer side, Divider

64 % of the board ends up in the furniture. The last sheet has a large piece left over — plan extra shelves, a drawer or a second small cabinet into the same order.

Questions

How many sheets do I need for a TV stand?

A 1600 × 500 × 400 mm version in 18 mm board needs 2 sheets of 2440 × 1220 mm: 3.80 m² of board and about 16.5 m of edge banding. The 3 mm HDF back is cut from a separate thin sheet.

How long should a TV stand be?

At least the width of the TV, better 20–30 cm wider. For a 55" TV (about 1230 mm wide) 1400–1600 mm looks right.

How high should a TV stand be?

So that the middle of the screen is at eye level when seated, usually 400–550 mm for the stand.
